H&S Chemical Company Earns Certification for ChemStewards® Program

H&S Demonstrates Commitment to Continuous Environmental, Health, Safety and Security Improvements

COVINGTON, KY – (July 8, 2009) - H&S Chemical Co. Inc., a subsidiary of Syrgis Performance
Products, today announced it has completed requirements for certification and compliance with the
Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) ChemStewards® program.
ChemStewards is SOCMA's flagship environmental, health, safety and security (EHS&S) continuous
performance improvement program. ChemStewards was created from industry’s commitment to
continuous improvement and to reducing the environmental footprint left by members’ facilities. Industry
created ChemStewards to meet the unique needs of the batch, custom and specialty chemical industry.
As a mandatory requirement for SOCMA members engaged in the manufacturing or handling of
synthetic and organic chemicals, ChemStewards is helping participants reach for superior EHS&S
performance.

"The ChemStewards certification is a confirmation of our desire to continuously improve so that we are
better able to support our customers," said H&S Chemical President and Syrgis Performance Products
CEO Andy Harris. "We are fortunate to have a strong team and a history of quality to support this
registration process. The level of quality and environmental systems required to achieve a
ChemStewards certification is testament to H&S Chemical’s commitment to all of our stakeholders."
Certification is a vigorous process requiring facilities to review their current safety, security, health and
environmental policies for hazards, risks, and legal requirements. The facilities must create management
system documentation, train employees on their responsibilities and accountabilities, and enact
operational controls and emergency responses as needed. The program also requires facilities to
monitor and measure their performance, report these numbers back to SOCMA, and then take any
necessary corrective action. Finally, all of this must be reviewed by a third-party auditor who analyzes the
documentation and performs a facility inspection.

"H&S Chemical should be proud to be ChemStewards certified," said Joe Acker, SOCMA's President.
"Their customers can rest assured that their business is being handled by a company that makes sound
environmental, health, safety and security management a top priority. SOCMA's ChemStewards
Program is the only EHS&S program designed specifically for the batch, custom and specialty chemical
industry. H&S’s participation indicates their commitment to compliance with federal regulation and
building cooperation throughout the supply chain."
